The Redskins have two Sims, and only one is likely to stay on the team

Going into Thursday nights’ final preseason game of the year between the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens, if you asked anyone to list the receivers on the Redskins who more than likely would be named to the 53-man roster, Cam Sims would be on that list.

However, it was a different Sims who stole the show for Washington. Steven Sims Jr., an undrafted rookie out of Kansas, had two impressive highlight plays in the first half; the first a diving touchdown catch delivered on a rope by Haskins, and the second a 41-yard kickoff return late in the first half.

In the meantime, Cam Sims had back-to-back inexcusable drops in the first half, both of which would have continued Redskins drives.

The parallels between the two receivers are ironic — aside from sharing the same last name, both went undrafted out of college and got a shot with the Redskins in their rookie season. Both receivers impressed in training camp and used a standout performance in the 4th game of the preseason to ultimately make the squad.

Unfortunately for Cam Sims, that last similarity may be the deciding factor in whether or not he makes the team this year. Should he be cut from the 53-man roster, there is no doubt he would be asked to join the practice squad, but it goes to show how quickly some things can change in this league.
