The Redskins-Giants rivalry has been renewed thanks to Landon Collins

When two teams pitted in a historic rivalry start to fall short of expectations for seasons on end, the rivalry loses a bit of its edge. The documented hatred between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants has fallen stale.

Enter Landon Collins — the perfect man to refuel a grudge match.

After being cast off by the Giants earlier this year, Collins has not minced words about his former team. He no longer bleeds blue—now he’s out to eradicate that bloodline altogether.

In a recent media session, Collins stressed his anticipation for the Redskins Week 4 matchup with the Giants. Last season the Pro Bowl safety said he wanted no part in trying to tackle Giants standout running back Saquon Barkley; now he wants all the smoke.

“I was only saying that for the media,’’ Collins said, via the New York Post. “I’ve been ready to tackle Saquon. That’s my guy, though. When I get to meet him in the hole this time it’s gonna be full-go.’’

Since his relocation, Collins has not been shy about speaking on his former team. In the past couple of months, he has declared that the Redskins drafted a better quarterback in Dwayne Haskins, though the Giants selected Daniel Jones with the No. 6 pick. Collins also spoke out on NY’s trade of all-pro WR Odell Beckham Jr., saying it was “not a good look for players & teammates.”

All of this is adding fuel to a dying fire. The Redskins and Giants have been bottom-feeders in the NFL for the past handful of years — and their rivalry has taken a hit because of it.

Collins and his braggadocious ego are exactly what the rivalry needed. Get your popcorn ready for Week 4.
