Redskins and 49ers made history on Sunday afternoon

It was a historic game for Washington and San Francisco on Sunday afternoon at FedEx Field, and for once, Redskins fans can celebrate their team’s achievement and bask in the glory of a record-book day.

At 2 hours and 36 minutes, Sunday’s game between the Redskins and 49ers was the shortest ever played at FedEx Field, which opened in 1997. It was also the shortest game the NFL has seen since the New England Patriots took down the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009, a game that lasted the same amount of time.

The slip-n-slide mud bowl was over quickly, and thankfully so as the driving rain poured down and made Washington’s home turf resemble something more of a puddle than a gridiron. The 49ers walked off of the field with a 9-0 victory, which undoubtedly made that hot shower all the more sweet on their trip across the country and back home much more pleasant.

As for the fans, they can just be happy that this atrocity of a football game was over quickly, and that they could spend the bulk of their Sunday doing something other than watching Washington play football.
