'The Reds are going up!' - Nottingham Forest fans go nuts at major EFL update

Nottingham Forest have been handed a major boost in their bid to secure a play-off place this season.

The Championship campaign has been on hold since early March because of the coronavirus pandemic, with Sabri Lamouchi's side last in action on March 6.

Forest are in fifth place, five points clear of Bristol City in seventh and had their eyes on securing a play-off place before the postponement of the season.

The English Football League (EFL) have been exploring ways to restart the season and there is hope that the campaign will get back underway next month and the final nine matches for each club - plus the play-offs - played out.

A fresh statement was released today outlining the League's wish for the play-offs to be completed across the divisions.

If the remaining League matches won't be played, the table will be decided on a points-per-game basis.

Forest will finish in the play-offs if PPG is used to decide the final standings, or they will be given a chance to earn it by playing the final nine games.

An option to cancel the season altogether appears to be very unlikely in news that will come as a big relief to Reds fans.

Here, we look at what the City Ground faithful have been saying about this afternoon's big news.

"Playoffs here we come, the Reds are going up!" one fan said.

"If this happens to be the case, surely that means we will be in the playoffs," added another.

"With our star players fully rested and injury-free (e.g. Grabban), a  curtailed season could be the best ever chance Forest have had of promotion through the play-offs," said a third.

Another said: "Going up by winning at an empty Wembley would be peak Forest."

While a fifth added: "I reckon we have an advantage in this heat with all the Portuguese lads!"

Forest have spent 20 years outside of the Premier League and are bidding to end that wait this season.
