The record sum Celtic banked in prize money from treble Treble

Celtic will bank a record figure in domestic prize money after completing the treble Treble with Saturday's Scottish Cup victory.

As the final whistle blew on the Hampden win over Hearts, the Hoops' players, coaches and supporters hailed their historic moment in joyous scenes.

And the club's bank manager would have been affording himself a small celebration too as more cash came rolling in for the dominant Parkhead club.

Now as Neil Lennon prepares to do business in the summer transfer window the full breakdown of the champions' earnings from domestic prize money alone can be revealed.

Lennon successfully saw Celtic over the line to an eighth top tier title in a row.

And we told last month how the Premiership champions would pocket a record £3.35million for coming top of the pile. That's £200,000 more than last season's reward.

On top of that the Hoops had already banked a bumped-up £260,000 for winning the Betfred League Cup back in December. The 1-0 Hampden win over Aberdeen kicked off the latest domestic clean sweep.

And Saturday's Scottish Cup success, which cemented the third treble in succession, was worth roughly £120,000 to the winners.

That brings Celtic's total earnings from domestic prize money alone to just over £3.7million for 2018/19.

Not that that tells the whole story of another lucrative season though.

That figure will be boosted massively by TV payments for live matches throughout the campaign and, of course, the run in Europe.

While Celtic made nowhere near the estimated £30million pocketed for reaching the Champions League group stages in 2016/17 and 2017/18, there was still a £3million prize for their run to the last 32 of the Europa League.

Again that figure will be vastly inflated by the Hoops' share in TV money and ticket sales.

The domestic figures will be welcomed by the Parkhead number crunchers but the are a drop in the ocean compared to what's on offer to the winners - and even the losers - in the megabucks English Premier League.

Manchester City earned £38.4m last season for winning the league while even 19th-placed Stoke picked up £3.8m for being relegated.
