The recipe hack to make hand sanitiser at home with just three ingredients

As Covid-19 continues to spread across the country, it is more important than ever that we keep our hands clean.

That means washing your hands with soap and water frequently.

We've all heard the advice to sing ourselves "happy birthday" a couple of times as we wash our hands, to ensure we are washing them for long enough, the Daily Post reports.

However both soap and hand sanitiser bottles are disappearing from our shelves increasingly quickly.

In particular, hand sanitiser is becoming especially hard to come by and some shops have been forced to ration sales.

Luckily, it’s not that difficult to make your own, which you can do by following these simple steps first reported by the Daily Post.

Hand sanitiser: how to make your own

What you’ll need

3/4 cup of isopropyl or rubbing alcohol (99 percent) - can be found in health and beauty retailers like Boots or Superdrug.

1/4 cup of aloe vera gel (to help keep your hands smooth and to counteract the harshness of alcohol) - can be found in supermarkets and health and beauty retailers.

10 drops of essential oil, such as lavender oil, or you can use lemon juice instead - can be found in supermarkets and health and beauty retailers.

Directions

Pour all ingredients into a bowl, ideally one with a pouring spout like a glass measuring container.

Mix with a spoon and then beat with a whisk to turn the sanitiser into a gel.

Pour the ingredients into an empty bottle for easy use, and label it “hand sanitiser.”
