The reception new Spurs boss Jose Mourinho will receive from the Man United players and fans

Jose Mourinho left Manchester United just over a year ago.

The Portuguese was in charge at Old Trafford for two-and-a-half years, winning the League Cup, the Europa League and finishing second to Manchester City in the 2017/18 Premier League.

But things did not go to plan during his third full season in charge and he was sacked in December last year, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing him.

Mourinho spent nearly a year out of the dugout, doing some punditry work for Sky Sports among others, but was tempted back into management when Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by Spurs two weeks ago.

And Mourinho will now return to Old Trafford on Wednesday night for the first time since leaving last December.

So what sort of reception will he receive?

Solskjaer, under pressure himself, has been holding his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Tottenham.

He said: "A very good reception, that’s just a testament to this club and these supporters, remember two and a half years, he won trophies, I’m 100% sure our fans, staff and club will welcome him."

But what about the players?

Mourinho had a well-publicised falling out with star player Paul Pogba, although the Frenchman is not available to play due to an ankle injury.

Solskjaer added: "I don’t think whoever the manager of the opposition team is will change motivation, everyone is motivated to do well for Manchester United, they know it’s about improving every day in training and step on that pitch to be part of this long-term, when you put the shirt on you’ve gotta give it your all.

"The boys are a bit disappointed after Sunday, after the game. But now all eyes are on Wednesday night."
