The reason why your brown bin might not have been emptied in Leeds yet

Leeds City Council has confirmed that some brown bins are being missed in the first two rounds of collections since the service resumed.

The authority states a 'significant backlog' is to blame, and is reassuring Leeds residents that this will be addressed.

Garden waste collections resumed on May 25 after being paused during lockdown. But since this date, people have been complaining on social media about missed bins.

On the Leeds Bins mobile app, it is advised that people can take garden waste to recycling centres to dispose of but you must book in advance for a slot to visit.

'It is possible some bins will get missed'

The statement reads: "Brown bin collections have now resumed. There is a significant backlog to work through and it is possible some bins will get missed on the first collection or two."

When the announcement was made about the brown bin service resuming, John Woolmer, from the council's environmental services team, said on the decision:

"Firstly, on behalf of Leeds City Council, I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during the last few weeks. We took the decision to suspend the garden waste collection service as soon as the government put in place strict restrictions on public movements.

"The crews have been working to routes designed a few years ago that are now out of date.

"We have taken the opportunity to update the routes and to make sure that new housing developments are included. This might mean that your collection day for your brown bin has changed."

The brown bin collections follow the reopening of several Leeds recycling centres, which also started up again earlier this month.
