Only two flags now flown at Cardiff Castle after complaints to council

Cardiff Castle will fly only the Welsh and Union Jack flags from now on after the receiving complaints.

The castle used to fly a number of flags from Commonwealth or European nations alongside the Welsh red dragon and the Union Jack.

But now only the Welsh and British standards will adorn the historic walls of Cardiff Castle - because people from some Commonwealth countries complained they weren't represented.

Cardiff council, which owns and manages the castle, was asked earlier this year why the flag of Bangladesh had been taken down from the monument.

In a freedom of information request, the authority replied: "Cardiff council were receiving comments regarding certain nations' flags not being featured and were also receiving increasing requests to include other nations' flags.

"The council do not wish to offend anyone by not flying a certain flag, also the council do not have enough flag poles to accommodate all of the requests received."

The council said it had not received any complaints specifically about the Bangladesh flag.
