The reason why Harry Kane is absent from the Tottenham squad vs Everton

Tottenham will have to do without Harry Kane for this afternoon's Premier League clash against Everton.

With the club confirming on Friday that Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela would both miss the game at Goodison Park through injury, Mauricio Pochettino's side were hit by another major blow ahead of kick-off as it was confirmed that the England captain would in fact join his teammates on the sidelines.

With Spurs fans fearing the worst when the news initially broken in the early hours of Sunday morning, it has now been confirmed to football.london that the striker's absence is actually down to a virus.

Kane's absence comes as a real blow to Pochettino and Spurs as they look to put things right in the league after a dismal start to the campaign.

The Lilywhites go into the game in L4 in the lowly position of 13th in the Premier League, 11 points off Leicester City in the race for a Champions League spot.

Spurs return to action on Wednesday evening when they face Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League and Pochettino will have his fingers crossed that his star man will be back for the crucial clash in Serbia.
