The reason why Everton star Tom Davies has not been called up to England's U21 squad

Everton midfielder Tom Davies will miss next month's European U21 Championships thanks to a shoulder injury.

Aidy Boothroyd announced his squad for the tournament and selected three Blues youngsters - Dominic Calvert-Lewin , Kieran Dowell and Jonjoe Kenny .

However, notable omissions for the squad were Davies and Ademola Lookman despite the pair putting in a number of strong performances throughout the 2018/19 term.

But now the reason behind the former's absence as been fully revealed.

Davies was not selected to join up with the rest of his Everton teammates thanks to a shoulder injury.

The problem is not believed to require surgery to fix, but does mean the 20-year-old will not be ready in time to join the England squad as they take part in the tournament.

Boothroyd's side are set to face France, Romania and Croatia in the group stages of the tournament - kicking off against France on June 18.

Davies made 19 appearances in all competitions for Everton last term, and was made the club's youngest-ever captain against Rotherham United in the League Cup back in August.
