The reason why Erik Lamela is not in the Spurs squad against Man City in the Champions League

There appeared to be a bit of confusion ahead of kick-off regarding Erik Lamela's place in the Spurs squad for this evening's Champions League clash against Man City.

The Argentine has been out injured since the Round of 16 second leg clash against Borussia Dortmund with a hamstring injury but it was thought he could be part of the 18-man squad at the Etihad.

Lamela travelled with his teammates to Manchester on Tuesday and actually took part in the team's training session on the pitch ahead of the game.

The 27-year-old showed no signs of any problems and appeared in good spirits as he went through a few passing drills with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Well, ahead of kick-off it appeared the player was fit enough to play as the Champions League website named him on the bench.

However, a few minutes later Spurs tweeted their team but there was no sign of his name with Kyle Walker-Peters instead included.

According to football commentator Jim Proudfoot, the Spurs man had a recurrence of his hamstring injury so was not included on the bench.

Spurs will be hoping he can return to action as soon as possible with some important games on the agenda.
