The reason why Arsenal and Chelsea target Said Benrahma will miss the rest of Brentford's season

There was a notable absentee on the Brentford team sheet as the lineups were revealed ahead of the clash with Millwall.

Said Benrahma, who has been one of the Championship's star performers this term, was neither in the starting XI or on the substitutes bench.

Unfortunately for the Bees, it seems that Benrahma's season could be over.

The 23-year-old is expected to miss to miss the rest of Brentford's campaign with an ankle injury.

Benrahma picked up the knock during the 2-1 defeat to Reading last Saturday, when the forward hobbled from the pitch at the Madejski Stadium just before the hour mark.

The injury seemed innocuous enough at the time, with Bees head coach Thomas Frank seeming unsure post-match about the nature of the injury.

Asked about Benrahma's knock, he said: "I don’t know. For me he just got a knock on the ankle or a slight twist, so I don’t know. They’re assessing him now, and we will assess him tomorrow."

As it turns out, the nature of that injury is more serious than first thought, with the nature of Benrahma's injury set to keep him out until the start of next season.
