The reason Wales have been forced to wear dark green socks against France today

The more eagle-eyed Welsh rugby fan will have noticed something a little bit different about Wales' kit today.

Red shirts? Check. White shorts? Check. Red socks? Hang on a minute.

For France's visit to the Principality Stadium in round three of the Six Nations, Wales were forced to change the colour of their socks.

This is because France now wear red socks with their traditional blue shirt and white shorts.

To avoid red socks clashing, Wales donned the dark green socks that usually go with the alternative strip.

This is because, in the event of a kit clash in the Six Nations, it is always the home team that change their strip accordingly.

Interestingly, though, this doesn't extend to the Rugby World Cup.

At the global gathering last year, when Wales faced France in the quarter-finals it was Les Bleus who changed their socks to blue. On that occasion, Wales were the 'home' team.

There appeared to be some sort of error on France's behalf during last year's clash between the two teams as both sides wore clashing red socks.
