The reason VAR isn't in use for Liverpool's Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal

Liverpool returned to Carabao Cup action tonight.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp opted to make five changes for his side's game against Arsenal, with Harvey Elliott becoming the youngest player to ever appear for Liverpool at Anfield.

And the Reds got off to the best possible start when Shkodran Mustafi turned the ball into his own net after just six minutes.

Five minutes later, though, and Unai Emery's side were level when Lucas Torreira turned the ball home from close range.

Replays, however, suggested that the Spaniard was offside when he put the ball in the net, and had it been a Premier League game then referee Andre Marriner could have used VAR for assistance.

But the technology, which was used in last season's competition, isn't being used this time round after the EFL opted to get rid of the system on the grounds that it was only being used at Premier League venues.
