The reason Rangers banned Braga from using Ibrox ahead of Europa League clash revealed

Rangers banned Braga from training on the Ibrox pitch last night in a bid to protect the weather-ravaged surface.

The Portuguese outfit were instead given Rangers’ Hummel Training Centre to hone their preparations for tonight’s Europa League last-32 clash.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard insists the Scots had no option and believes the pitch will benefit from having a ‘rest’ and will play better than it looks.

He said: “You have to adapt and be ready for it. It’s the reason why we’ve kept Braga off the pitch.

“It happened to us last year in Vienna. They wouldn’t let us use the pitch because of the condition and the weather, so Braga will train and use the facilities here.

“We want the pitch to be in the best possible place it can be at. We all know it’s not in great shape.

“Groundsmen are working
tirelessly to get it in the best
condition it can be and it could play a part in the game, depending on weather. It did at the weekend.

“It was heavy underfoot. The players were saying at the end of the game that they could really feel how soft it was. It’s probably not as bad as it looks on the eye.”
