The reason Nottingham Forest were able to complete Anthony Knockaert transfer from Fulham

New Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Knockaert became the 14th new arrival at the City Ground since the end of last summer.

The Frenchman has signed a loan deal until January, just three months after signing for Fulham on a permanent deal for a fee of £10.5 million.

Knockaert has won promotion to the Premier League with three different clubs - Leicester City, Brighton and Fulham - since arriving in England. The 28-year-old has previously worked under Hughton during his time at Brighton.

Fulham’s decision to part ways with the player this summer has not gone down too well with fans of the club, with many questioning the decision after spending money on the player.

According to West London Sport, the Cottagers had no choice but to make Knockaert’s move permanent this summer due to the number of appearances he made for them last season, having played 46 times in all competitions as they earned promotion back to the Premier League.

The inflated nature of Scott Parker’s Fulham squad meant that they had to work to get players off the books before the end of the window.

Knockaert failed to make a Premier League appearance for Fulham so far this season, appearing in just three Carabao Cup games.

He was therefore allowed to move to the City Ground in search of game time.

Following the move, the player showed his delight via his Instagram account.

“This made my Friday ... Let’s play football with a smile on my face again,” he wrote.

Knockaert has made a total of 190 Championship appearances, scoring 36 goals and providing a further 34 assists.

He started his career in France, before moving to Leicester in 2012. Moves to Standard Liege, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Fulham followed before arriving at the City Ground where he will look to make a similar impact.
