The reason Norwich City and Spurs players are wearing black armbands

The televised evening kick-off on Saturday came from Carrow Road.

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur were the visitors to Norwich's stadium for a game that has implications at opposite ends of the table.

The Canaries slipped to the bottom of the Premier League ahead of kick-off as a result of Watford's impressive 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Vicarage Road.

Spurs, meanwhile, were looking to move into the top four in the Premier League for the first tie this season, for a few hours at least, taking advantage of Chelsea not playing until Sunday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho: Harry Kane is fantastic

Amongst the many other things players in the Premier League wear on a matchday, all 22 stars on the pitch at Carrow Road were wearing black armbands.

And they were for the man for whom there was a minute's silence prior to kick-off - Martin Peters.

The 1966 World Cup winner, and goalscorer in that final against West Germany, died at the age of 76 last week and his career has been celebrated up and down the country.

Peters played for both Tottenham and Norwich during a distinguished 22-year playing career and is fondly remembered at both clubs for his time there.

The black armbands are a mark of respect for the World Cup winner.
