The reason Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal hasn't yet been announced - transfer rumours

Lille winger Nicolas Pepe's move to Arsenal has been the dominant major transfer story of the last week.

After the fee for the 24-year-old was successfully hashed out, negotiations between the club and the player are believed to have gone as far as a medical, which was undertaken this week.

So what's the hold-up over the deal that will cost the Gunners a club record £72m fee over the next five years?

Lille director general Marc Ingla has an explanation, explaining simply why no official announcement has yet been made:

"There are administrative details," he said.

The news comes from reliable French outlet GFFN , who also confirm that the player has indeed passed a medical at the Emirates' stadium.

It means it shouldn't be too long before we get some official confirmation, although it may come as a concern to some who want the deal over the line ASAP, as Premier League clubs enter the final week of their transfer window.

The Gunners have plenty of other business to be getting on with in that short timescale, with Kieran Tierney still a target as they line up a third bid for the Celtic star.

In addition to Pepe, Tierney and the already done deals for William Saliba and Dani Ceballos, Unai Emery has also alluded to his intentions to add another centre-back and a midfielder to his squad.

For the time being, however, it's Pepe who is the priority, and it's easy to see why. He had previously been a target for Liverpool, after a season in which he scored 23 goals and assisted 12 to fire his side into the Champions League, finishing as Ligue 1 runners-up to PSG.
