The reason N'Golo Kante was not in Chelsea's squad to face Norwich City

It has been a frustrating start to the 2019/20 Premier League season for N'Golo Kante and he was not in the Chelsea squad to face Norwich City this afternoon.

The Frenchman was on the bench for the opening game of the campaign due to an ongoing knee problem which was carried on from the previous campaign.

However, Kante then played 120 minutes in the Super Cup before starting the 1-1 draw with Leicester City last weekend, however he has picked up another injury to add to the list.

The 28-year-old sprained his ankle during the week and is not fit to make the matchday squad at Carrow Roard.

Frank Lampard had hoped to have the World Cup winner as part of the team for the game as the Blues try to get their first three points of the campaign.

However, Kante has not come through a late fitness test and now will be resting up and hoping to be back in action against Sheffield United at home next weekend.

That means Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho play in midfielder, with Mason Mount also starting his third Premier League game in a row for the Blues.

Tammy Abraham was also given the nod up top over Olivier Giroud, with Michy Batshuayi on the bench.
