The reason Moussa Sissoko has dropped out of Jose Mourinho's Tottenham squad for Newcastle game

Jose Mourinho has had to make a late alteration to his Tottenham substitutes' bench for this afternoon's Premier League game against Newcastle United.

Making a host of changes to his side after the midweek win over Shkendija in the Europa League, the head coach initially named Moussa Sissoko as one of his seven options on the bench.

However, it was confirmed by the club 30 minutes ahead of kick-off that the Frenchman had been replaced on the bench due to illness.

That has meant Gedson Fernandes now comes into the matchday squad after initially missing out on selection.

Milan Skriniar wants Spurs move

Signed on loan from Benfica in January, the Portuguese player has found opportunities extremely hard to come by this term due to the amount of midfield options at Mourinho's disposal.

The decision to call up Gedson to the squad sees Dele Alli once again miss out on selection.

Substituted off at half-time on the opening day of the season against Everton, the attacking midfielder was back in the team on Thursday against Shkendija after missing out on the squad in their previous two fixtures.

Mourinho has however opted against including the ex-MK Dons man as part of his 18-man squad and has instead plumped for Gedson.

The Portuguese player is joined on the bench by Joe Hart, Sergio Reguilon, Toby Alderweireld, Tanguy Ndombele, Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn.
