The reason Mesut Ozil misses Arsenal's clash with Burnley and when he could return

Unai Emery named a strong side for Arsenal's Premier League clash with Burnley, but there was one notable absentee.

While Dani Ceballos, David Luiz, Lucas Torreira and Alexandre Lacazette returned to the fold, Mesut Ozil was a notable exclusion for the clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The playmaker was expected to return to the fold alongside Sead Kolasinac after the security risk that ruled him out of the clash against Newcastle United last week.

But while Kolasinac returned to the matchday squad, Ozil was not included in the 18.

However Arsenal have confirmed that the reason for his exclusion is down to illness.

The club tweeted that the 30-year-old had been unwell earlier this week and therefore judged not to be match fit for the clash with Burnley.

While his exclusion is a blow, Football.London understands that Ozil is expected to be available for next week's trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool.

If the playmaker does return against Jurgen Klopp's side, the hope will be that he can continue his positive run of form which started in pre-season.
