The reason Mesut Ozil is not in Mikel Arteta's Arsenal squad for Sheffield United FA Cup tie

Mesut Ozil has not been included in the Arsenal squad for this afternoon's FA Cup clash against Sheffield United.

An unused substitute in the recent Premier League games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton, the German is absent for the game at Bramall Lane.

Arsenal provided an update on the experienced player just after team news was confirmed and his omission is down to injury.

"Mesut missed training yesterday due to a slight back injury, so he is not in today's matchday squad," said on tweet on the club's Twitter account.

Following Thursday's much-needed 2-0 win at Southampton, Arteta has made a total of five changes for the game in South Yorkshire.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, David Luiz, Joe Willock, Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette all come in, with Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Dani Ceballos, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eddie Nketiah dropping down to the bench.

Having won the FA Cup during his time as a player at the Emirates, Arteta will be intent on lifting it as a head coach following his appointment in north London back in December.

Speaking ahead of the game against Chris Wilder's team, he said: "We are very excited. It is a competition that is very linked to this football club - that has won it more times than anybody else in this country.

"The players are excited, having the chance to go to Wembley even if it's empty, it's such a special occasion so we'll try hard.

"We're going to face a difficult opponent for sure but the boys are excited about it."

Arsenal will join Manchester United in the hat for the semi-final draw providing that they beat the Blades at Bramall Lane.

Chelsea visit Leicester City and Newcastle United host Man City in the final two quarter-final draws with a place at Wembley up for grabs.
