The 'reason' Manchester United are hopeful of Arturo Vidal move and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are hopeful of a transfer for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal thanks to Ed Woodward's relationship with his agent, according to reports.

Midfield has perhaps been United's most troubled position this season after the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini over the past 12 months.

Injuries to Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay have depleted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's options further and it shows with United's lack of control and creativity in the middle of the park.

It's no surprise United are being linked with a number of midfielders ahead of the January transfer window with Leicester playmaker James Maddison, Declan Rice of West Ham and Sporting captain Bruno Fernandes just a few of the named touted.

The latest name to be added to the hat is Barcelona veteran Vidal and FCInterNews, via SportWitness, report Vidal 'could be a target for United.'

It's claimed the 32-year-old is 'frustrated' with his lack of game time at the Camp Nou and that his agent, Fernando Felicevic, has a 'very good' relationship with Ed Woodward as he's also Alexis Sanchez' agent which 'could facilitate a transfer.'

However, it's also reported that Vidal's 'first preference' would be to join Sanchez at Inter and play under his former manager Antonio Conte again and given Solskjaer's preference is to sign young players with promise the 32-year-old does not fit the profile of player the United manager is currently targeting.

Maddison remains a target and is exactly the sort of player United are looking to bring into their young squad.

Meanwhile, reports claim United will make a move for Erling Braut Haaland in the January transfer window but they’re set to face plenty of competition.

According to Norwegian outlet  VG SPORT , scouts of both Barcelona, Real Madrid and United have seen the 19-year-old play this season, with several other clubs having also sent members of staff.

As well as that trio, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Valencia and Seville are said to have watched the forward, as he brought his goal tally to 27 in 19 games in midweek.
