The reason Kemar Roofe's Rangers wonder goal was never in Puskas Award 2020 contention

The annual FIFA Puskas Award nominees have been unveiled - but there's no place for Rangers star Kemar Roofe.

The Ibrox forward received widespread acclaim for his incredible 55-yard stunner against Standard Liege in the Europa League.

Rangers ' social media team were quick to tout the goal for recognition in the aftermath, tagging in the official Puskas Twitter account after the game.

But, unfortunately for Roofe, his goal was never eligible for this year's competition.

No, the cut-off date for 2020 entries passed on October 7, with the goal being scored on October 22.

The 27-year-old could well be up for the award next year, however.

However, there is Scottish representation on the list nonetheless.

Manchester City and Scotland star Caroline Weir has been nominated for a stunning strike from distance against rivals Manchester United last year.

Here's the full list of nominees for the 2020 edition.
