The reason Kate Middleton 'deliberately' wore Diana's earrings 'wrong way around'

Kate Middleton wowed royal fans at the Coronation with not only her stunning gown but also her touching tribute to Princess Diana.

The royal wore Diana's gorgeous pearl and diamond earrings on the big day, but some viewers had thought Kate had worn them the wrong way around, the Mirror reports.

However, one royal expert has suggested that the supposed 'mistake' was actually deliberate and claims it was the Princess of Wales' way of 'taking a new direction' while honouring Prince William's late mother.

The stunning Collingwood jewellery set was gifted to then-Lady Diana ahead of her wedding to Charles in 1981 and the family heirloom was passed down to thrilled Kate after her marriage to William in 2011.

Speculation began to swirl that the pearl earrings were the same pair Diana wore with her iconic 'revenge dress' following Charles' affair with Camilla.

However, the rumours of her wearing them at the Serpentine Gallery in 1994 have since been proven false.

However, the late royal did wear the earrings to a fundraising dinner in Sydney in 1996 and was also snapped in them at a Gala dinner held by the American Red cross as well as when she was on a tour of Korea.

Puzzled fans suggested Kate had made a rare wardrobe error last weekend with the position of her earrings, but the Daily Mail reported that Kate had wanted to put her own twist on things and it wasn't the mistake many thought it was.

Right from the outset of becoming Princess of Wales, a palace source said Her Royal Highness 'appreciates the history' of the role of but wanted to 'create her own path'.

The rest of Kate's exquisite outfit was an Alexander McQueen gown in ivory silk crepe with silver bullion and thread work three-dimensional leaf embroidery.

However, royal fans had to wait until the official Coronation portrait was released to see the dress in full as she wore a formal robe on the day which covered the majority of her outfit.

Kate completed her dazzling gown with a stunning Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen leaf headpiece which matched with her daughter, Princess Charlotte who was wearing a smaller version of the same accessory.

The young royal also twinned with her mother in a matching Alexander McQueen dress.

The Princess of Wales did not have a formal role at the Coronation ceremony but was seen looking on proudly as Prince William and her eldest son, Prince George delivered their important tasks.

After the ceremony, Kate and William joined the procession back to Buckingham Palace with George, Charlotte and Louis and travelled behind the gold state coach.
