The reason Chelsea won't sign Wilfried Zaha in January, according to former Crystal Palace star

Former Crystal Palace star John Salako says he does not expect Wilfried Zaha to move to Chelsea because of Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Palace winger Zaha has been heavily linked to Stamford Bridge since the club’s transfer ban was reduced, meaning that the Blues are now able to sign new players in January, having not been able to register new signings in the summer transfer window.

Zaha is one of the players to have been linked with the Blues as attention turns to the January transfer window, which opens in less than two weeks, with speculation once again over the Palace star's future, after he was linked with Arsenal and Everton in the summer.

However, Palace are reportedly holding firm on their £80m price for the Ivory Coast international - and Salako does not think a deal will get done - for one key reason.

Everything you need to know about the January transfer window

“I honestly don’t think Wilf will go to Chelsea,” Salako told Love Sport Radio.

“[Callum] Hudson-Odoi has come back and I don’t think they’ll want to hinder his development. But Willian and Pedro are getting on a bit, and maybe they’ll want someone to add to that."

However, Salako has hinted at a potential deal that he feels could tempt Palace, with the Eagles in the market for another striker in January, with only Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham as the current options available to Roy Hodgson up front.

“They could do a great little swap, though," said Salako.

"Palace have got their eyes on [Olivier] Giroud, and that would be fantastic - Giroud plus money! If Palace get the right offer, they could be tempted.

“Wilfried definitely has the ability [to play for Chelsea], and no Palace fan can begrudge him if he wants that move.”
