The reason Celtic star James Forrest didn’t collect his Player of the Year award revealed

The great and the good of Scottish football attended the player of the year awards bash on Sunday night – but the star of the show didn’t make it.

James Forrest won the top prize, with the Celtic star being named the player of the season. Rangers winger Ryan Kent won the Young Player of the Year, while Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke was crowned the top manager.

Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos, meanwhile, was credited with scoring the goal of the season and the Colombian along with Clarke and Kent were at the Hilton in Glasgow to receive their trophies.

But the man of the night, Forrest, wasn’t there to collect his prize. Instead, former Celtic striker Andy Walker and singer Amy Macdonald did the honours.

But it was quite understandable as the Scotland star was away celebrating something even bigger.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed another superb season, netting 22 times for club and country over 61 appearances.

And instead of attending the awards bash, Forrest was understood to be whooping it up in Dublin.

It’s believed he and the rest of Neil Lennon’s squad were in the Irish capital celebrating yet another Premiership title.

Keith Lasley blasts David Turnbull snub as Rangers Ryan Kent wins young player award

Following Saturday’s win over Aberdeen that sealed eight in a row for Celtic, the Hoops flew across the water for a well-earned break.

They don’t play again until Sunday when they face second-placed Rangers at Ibrox in a high noon showdown.

Celtic can secure an historic treble Treble on May 25 if they beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final.
