The reason Callum Hudson-Odoi was not in Chelsea's squad vs Manchester United

Chelsea take on Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening and there was a big omission from Frank Lampard’s squad.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was not named in the side who took on the red Devils with the England U21 international not even making the bench.

Hudson-Odoi has had a difficult start to the campaign, with just one start to his name in the Premier League and another two appearances off the bench.

The 19-year-old was also a late substitute in the Champions league draw against Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Hudson-Odoi was once again the centre of high transfer interest from Bayern Munich, but the Blues rejected a bid from the Germans.

However, Hudson-Odoi has a real struggle of getting into the first team on a regular basis, with Hakim Ziyech now fit.

He was named on the bench, with Mason Mount also on the bench, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic starting either side of Timo Werner.

And that is why Hudson-Odoi was not named in the matchday squad at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard was hoping to get his side to be solid, just like they were against Sevilla on Tuesday night.

"[I want us to] Play with organisation that we found against a very good Sevilla team," he said pre-match.

"We need to build on that but also be confident. We come here with players that can give Manchester United a problem. They are finding their feet and I believe they will but we must be confident to win the game."
