The reason Bukayo Saka was absent from England squad to face Romania ahead of Euro 2020

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka was absent from the England squad to face Romania in the final friendly before Euro 2020.

The Three Lions are now just one week away from their EUro 2020 opener, against Croatia, the team who broke their hearts in the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup.

And in preparation for the big opener, England take on Romania in Middlesbrough, their last friendly before this summer's tournament, but there was a noticeable absence.

Saka was not involved in the starting XI or the substitutes bench, causing concern amongst Arsenal fans, as well as England supporters after he scored the winner in the last friendly, against Austria.

But while Saka has suffered an injury, it seems there is not too much to worry about, and he looks set to be fit ahead of the start of Euro 2020 next week.

"Bukayo Saka is managing a hip injury and misses today's #ENG game. Indications are that it’s not a serious injury," read a Sky Sports update.

Saka has enjoyed a fine season for Arsenal and he has only missed two games through injury all season, but one of those games was with a hip problem, suggesting the issue is ongoing despite that initial knock coming all the way back in January.

That could be a concern for the winger given the amount of games he may be required to play in such a short space of time over the course of the competition.

Still, the fact Saka looks set to recover in time for next week will be welcome news for Arsenal and England fans with the 19-year-old in fine form.

He ended the season with seven goals and 10 assists in a disappointing season for the Gunners, missing out on European football for next season, and he has already added to that scoring tally with the Three Lions since the end of the campaign.
