The reason behind Ben Davies' Rangers Champions League absence revealed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed the reason behind Ben Davies missing Rangers' Champions League showdown with PSV at Ibrox.

The Light Blues welcomed the Dutch giants to Govan in the first leg of their play-off clash - with the winner over the two legs reaching the lucrative group stages. There is plenty at stake for both sides as they bid to mix it with Europe's top players and clubs this term.

After a four-goal thriller at Ibrox, the two sides will go head to head once again in the Netherlands next week with nothing to separate the pair after a 2-2 draw.

Ibrahim Sangaré opened the scoring after a scramble in the Rangers box following a corner. Three minutes later Antonio Colak had the home fans roaring after superbly turning home James Tavernier's low cross.

Tom Lawrence then tried his luck with a long-range free-kick in a moment to forget for Walter Benitez to give the Light Blues the advantage in the second half but Armando Obispo headed home from a corner in the final stages of the game to spare his team-mates blushes and level the tie. James Sands returned after missing the game with St Johnstone to partner Connor Goldson in the heart of the defence.

Davies had played that role on Saturday - but was nowhere to be seen on Tuesday night. Van Bronckhorst was asked if the £4million signing from Liverpool.

He told BT Sport: "He already had a little problem. We thought that he would be okay for today but yesterday, we received the news that he wasn't available for today."
