The reason Arsenal loan star Eddie Nketiah is not in the Leeds United squad to face QPR

Eddie Nketiah has been denied his first start Championship start for Leeds United this afternoon.

Much has been made of the Arsenal loan star's lack starts for Marcelo Biesla's side outside of the Carabao Cup so far this season, but some significant news earlier in the week seemed like the wait would soon be over.

The Leeds coach confirmed that striker Patrick Bamford was struggling with an ankle problem, which could rule him out of the clash against Queen Park Rangers at Elland Road.

"Pablo Hernandez is good. Bamford has a little problem in the ankle," Bielsa said when speaking in his  press conference .

"Alioski, Douglas have some little problems as well.

"Douglas in the knee and Alioski in the side."

This injury update prompted some Arsenal fans to get excited about a start for Nketiah, but as it turns out the 20-year-old misses out this afternoon because of injury.

An official update via Leedsunited.com reads: "Leeds United forward Eddie Nketiah will miss today's Sky Bet Championship fixture with Queens Park Rangers.

"Nketiah picked up an abdominal injury in training on Friday, ruling him out of the Saturday fixture at Elland Road."

Gunners head coach Unai Emery addressed Nketiah's issue last month amid talk of the wonderkid being recalled in the January transfer window.

"Now is not the moment in October. He is now on loan in Leeds. First I respect his coach and his decision,” he said.

"And I think he is going to play more, because he is going to deserve it."

Bamford has recovered from the ankle problem to lead the line as Leeds go in search of a win that could see them end the afternoon at the top of the Championship table.

Meanwhile, Nketiah will hope the abdominal injury doesn't keep him out of action for too long.
