The reason 3 stars not named as forgotten man set for place in Chelsea's Premier League squad

Frank Lampard will name his 25-man squad for the Premier League today.

Every club in the top flight must name a 25-man squad at 5pm today, following the closure of the English and European transfer windows.

And there are certain rules that every club must adhere to.

Chelsea have let a number of players go this summer, but have not brought anyone new into the club as a result of a transfer embargo handed down by FIFA.

However, certain players have moved up from the U21 category into the main first team.

Here's everything we know about the 25-man squad ahead of the anouncement.

What is the squad being announced today?

Every club will name a squad of players that they are able to call upon for the first few months of the 2019/20 season.

Each squad will be no more than 25 players and that 25-man squad must not be made up of more than 17 non home-grown players, as at least eight must be home-grown stars.

What is a homegrown player?

A home-grown player means someone who has been registered with a club in England or Wales for thre consecutive years before they turn 21.

Who are Chelsea's home-grown players?

The Blues have five home-grown players this season, meaning they can only name a 22-man squad.

The home-grown players are:

Tammy Abraham, Ross Barkley, Andreas Christensen, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori.

Does that mean players will miss out?

In a word, no.

Chelsea let Gonzalo Higuain return to Juventus, while Eden Hazard, Davide Zappacosta (on loan) and David Luiz all left the club, making up for the home-grown players in Danny Drinkwater (on loan), Rob Green, Gary Cahill and Lucas Piazon (on loan) that have also gone.

So Chelsea's squad will be: Tammy Abraham, Marcos Alonso, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cesar Azpilicueta, Ross Barkley, Michy Batshuayi, Willian, Williy Caballero, Andreas Christensen, Olivier Giroud, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus Cheek, Emerson Palmieri, Pedro, Antonio Rudiger, Fikayo Tomori, Marco Van Ginkel, Kurt Zouma.

Why aren't Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic in it?

Because they are all U21 players and U21s do not count in the 25-man squad. Clubs can call upon their young players at any point during the season.

For the 2019/20 campaign U21 players will have been born on or after January 1, 1998.
