Hailey Bieber made a head-turning appearance at the 2025 Met Gala last night, not just because of her minimalist Saint Laurent tuxedo dress, but because of the distinct lack of Justin Bieber on her arm.
The model and Rhode skin mogul arrived at the event in head-to-toe black Saint Laurent, with chunky platform heels, sheer black tights and a wide-shoulder black blazer.
Hailey and Justin Bieber have been inseparable since the very start of their relationship. The couple tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their first baby, Jack Blues Bieber, in 2024.
Hailey Bieber has also been a constant presence around Justin in recent months amid ongoing concerns over the singer’s mental health.
Concerns for Justin Bieber were sparked by a string of strange public appearances and social media posts, including photos of Bieber on the streets of New York looking gaunt, videos he had taken of himself smoking weed, and Instagram posts where he asked the paparazzi to stop swarming around his house.
For every headline that reported “split rumours” between Justin and Hailey Bieber, there was a fresh paparazzi picture of the two together that put those rumours to bed — heading to a dinner date, watching a hockey game, attending Coachella.
But Justin Bieber’s absence at the Met Gala 2025 isn’t as worrying as people may think. Of the five times Hailey Bieber has attended the Met Gala, Justin Bieber has only been her date once. That’s the same number of times as Shawn Mendes — and he and Hailey only dated for one year.
Moreover, Justin Bieber appeared to be doing fine at home, relaxing on a massive sofa with a pair of slippers and an NHL hockey game. Bieber is a proud Toronto Maple Leafs fan, hailing from Canada himself, and his team won 5-4 against the Florida Panthers.
He even posted about the Met Gala 2025, sharing videos of Jeff Goldblum and praising his “swag”, as well as a post that confirmed his wife Hailey Bieber had arrived at the event holding an “extra dirty” vodka martini.
Bieber’s absence is also in keeping with his current anti-paparazzi agenda. He had a longstanding disdain for the paparazzi, with certain incidents causing this disdain to increase or decrease over the course of his fame. As per his Instagram post about the paparazzi outside his home recently, captioned “this has to stop”, we can imagine he’s not feeling too great about them right now, and the flash of a thousand bulbs on the Met steps might not be the best idea.
