The real reason Ian Holloway dislikes Steve McClaren - and why QPR should back Mark Warburton

Ian Holloway has urged fans to back Mark Warburton after he was confirmed as Queens Park Rangers manager.

The Former Brentford boss was confirmed as Steve McClaren's replacement on a two-year contract at Loftus Road.

Holloway was a special guest on the live edition of the Open All Rs QPR podcast this week and while reserving special praise for Warburton, he also found time to aim a dig at his replacement.

He said: "Mark (Warburton), the first time I'm going to mention it - well done.

"He was brilliant at Brentford - don't hold that against him! Please don't hold that against him. Sometimes you've got to look over there at what they've got and they've got a ground the size of a biscuit tin but they're going to move to a new place, so well done to them for where they've come from.

"It's all about us and where we're going so please give him time, help him, and help his team like you helped me. I think he cares. I think we're in good hands.

"I didn't like the other bloke (Steve McClaren) at all! I never have and I never will.

"Why? Because a game I was playing in years ago that meant the world to me against Bristol City. He was playing against me. I got there as quick as I could but a little bit late and I caught him. I didn't mean to but I was happy I did!

Mark Warburton's first words as ex-Brentford and Rangers boss accepts QPR role

"He got up and he said 'how much are you on?', I said 'you what?' and he said 'how much are you on?' - I said what's the score? We were 2-0 up. I've never liked him from that day to this.

"I'd like to get him here and ask if that's not true, because I'm telling the truth."
