The real reason Hibs refused to sell Kevin Nisbet to Birmingham City

Hibs are refusing to sell Kevin Nisbet to Birmingham City because their bids fell short of the asking price.

And the figures offered by the English Championship club can now be laid bare.

An initial offer of £2.25million was submitted on Friday and while this was considered by Hibs, it was ultimately rejected.

The fee could have risen depending on add ons and incentives, but the Easter Road club felt that it still didn’t make sense for them to part with the top scorer.

The Blues came back in with an improved bud, but rather the the reported £3million, their initial offer was only by less than £400,000 to £2.6million.

In response to this, Hibs informed The Blues what they’d be willing to sell Nisbet for, but the St Andrews club felt it was unrealistic and are thought to be very unlikely to come back in with a third bid.

Manager Jack Ross admitted on Friday that the first offers was worthy of consideration, but sources close to Hibs believe that by holding on to Nisbet, they could potentially net a cub record fee for the ex-Dunfermline hitman at the end of this season.

Nisbet only made the move from The Pars last summer and has impressed in the six months he’s been a Scottish Premiership player.

With continued development and more goals, The Hibees will be in a position to cash in when Nisbet is at his maximum value.

More offers could materialise on deadline day, but unless they are significantly higher than those already received, then Nisbet looks set to remain in green and white.
