The Rays gave the Yankees an advantage in the ALCS

The matchup we’ve all been hoping for in the American League Championship Series is on.

The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros will face off with a World Series on the line. That means we get to see two of the top three run-scoring squads in the regular season — who also hit a combined 594 home runs — battle it out.

I’d venture to say that those two lineups cancel each other out to an extent, and that, as usual, it comes down to pitching (but you knew that already about postseason baseball). And that’s where the Yankees have somewhat of an advantage thanks to their AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays extending the ALDS to five games:

That’s got to mean something right? I’m not sure it’s as huge of an advantage as it’s made out to be. But I know I’d rather have fresh arms going into this slugfest than 250 more tosses. I also know that I’d rather have the Astros’ rotation than the Yankees’ starters going into the ALCS.

So maybe this is a slight advantage for the Yanks, just enough to even it all out against a better starting staff.
