Ravens select QB Trace McSorley with No. 197 overall pick in 6th round

The Baltimore Ravens made their final slated selection in the 2019 NFL draft count. With the 197th overall pick in the sixth round, the Ravens selected Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley.

It’s an interesting selection considering Baltimore took quarterback Lamar Jackson last year and re-signed Robert Griffin III this offseason. But with McSorley’s athleticism, he could still see be used in other roles. At the very least, McSorley will be a camp arm.

With a need still at inside linebacker, it’s a bit surprising the Ravens grabbed a quarterback instead. That likely speaks volumes as to how Baltimore viewed the talent at the end of the sixth round.

In four seasons at Penn State, McSorley completed just 59.3% of his passes for 9,899 yards (an 8.1 yards-per-attempt average), 77 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. But his real asset has been his legs — he ran 473 times for 1,697 yards and 30 touchdowns.

While the Ravens could look to trade future selections or players to get back into the draft, they have no more picks. So they’ll likely get an early start on contacting high-priority UDFAs and hopefully find another diamond-in-the-rough prospect.
