The Rangers vs Aberdeen English viewing figures factor that prompted Sky to move powder keg opening day clash

TV bosses hope the eyes of fans all over Britain will be fixed on Scottish football’s explosive big kick-off at Pittodrie next Saturday after changing the kick-off time of Rangers’ opening day clash with Aberdeen.

Sky Sports chiefs yesterday made the decision to switch the opening day fixture to a lunchtime slot from its original evening schedule to prevent it clashing with the English FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Arsenal.

And they believe the late move to reschedule the game to 12:30pm could lead to bumper viewing figures down south as former England and Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard gets his latest campaign up and running behind closed doors.

The broadcaster’s decision means the two fierce rivals will open up the new Scottish season in the North East for the second time in the last three seasons.

Gerrard’s first ever top flight match in charge of the Ibrox club ended in a 1-1 draw after an injury time leveller from youngster Bruce Anderson.

Dundee United host St Johnstone, Hibernian face a visit from Kilmarnock and St Mirren take on Livingston in the other opening day games in the 3pm starts.
