The Rangers v Galatasaray protocol breach which led to UEFA fining Ibrox club more than £4000

UEFA have hit Rangers with a fine of more than £4000 after the Ibrox club breached 'return to play' protocols during the Europa League play-off match against Galatasaray.

The breach relates to new UEFA rules on stewarding zones. Rangers were fined a sum of £4520 after a meeting of the governing body's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

The Premiership leaders defeated Galatasaray 2-0 to qualify for the group stages, but were hit with a charge of after the game and were handed the fine after breaching para 13.3.1.

UEFA stated: "The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to fine Rangers FC €5,000 for the violation of the UEFA Return to Play Protocol. The above fine must be paid within 90 days of communication of this decision."

UEFA's para 13.3.1 states: "The accreditation system must allow stewards to clearly identify who is authorised to be in which zone at what time.

"The stadium safety and security officers, stewards and private security must be clearly briefed about both the stadium zoning system and the various times, as well as the importance of its application. All staff working in the stadium must be asked to respect the system and to cooperate fully with stewards."
