The Rangers fixture quirk that could see Steven Gerrard's men play just one league game in 33 days

For most of the season it's been Celtic playing catch up to Rangers in terms of games played.

But that could all change by the time they take each other on in March after Rangers' trip to Livingston was postponed because of the Betfred Cup Final.

The West Lothian side beat St Mirren in the semi-final at Hampden and will take on St Johnstone in the showpiece on February 28.

Steven Gerrard's side were due to face Livingston at the Tony Macaroni on that day but a new date will need to be found in the coming weeks.

That fixture change means Rangers could end up with just ONE league game in the space of 33 days.

The Ibrox side host Kilmarnock on February 13 and then travel to Celtic Park on March 20.

There's only one league game currently scheduled in the 33 days (non-inclusive) between those two dates, which will see Rangers take on St Mirren on March 6.

At present, there's no fixtures scheduled for February 21 and Rangers could end up moving the Livingston game until then if there's no return for the Scottish Cup by then.

The third round was due to take place next weekend but has been put back with League One and Two clubs currently not playing football.

The fourth round will then take place on February 21 and 22, while the fifth round is due to take place on March 13/14.

The midweeks of February 18 and February 25 are taken up by Rangers’ Europa League games against Royal Antwerp making it difficult to fit the Livingston game in.

Celtic will play one of their three games in hand next Saturday against St Mirren.

They’ll take on the Paisley outfit again in another game in hand on February 10, before their final rearranged game will see them take on Aberdeen on February 17.

As well as those games, they will also face St Johnstone on February 14 and Aberdeen again on February 27 and Dundee United on March 7 before the Old Firm game.

That means by then, Celtic will be on 32 games by March 20, with Rangers having six league games in that time, putting them on 31 matches.

Here’s how Rangers run of games looks between February 13 and March 20.

February 13 - Kilmarnock (Premiership)

February 18 - Antwerp (Europa League)

February 20/21 - Scottish Cup TBC

February 25 - Antwerp (Europa League)

February 28 - Free due to Livingston playing Betfred Cup Final

March 6 - St Mirren (Premiership)

March 13 - Scottish Cup TBC

March 20 - Celtic (Premiership)
