The Rangers Five timeline that's angered John Kennedy and how it compares to Aberdeen 8 and Boli Bolingoli

Reserved John Kennedy isn't one for screaming from the rooftops, that's for sure.

The interim manager has ramped down expectations from Celtic press conferences several levels since he replaced Neil Lennon.

Measured and thoughtful has been the order of the day which is certainly a tactic the emerging coach has employed.

It's clear then that the 39-year-old was very much wanting to convey clearly his upset when he unloaded on Rangers over their Covid Five appeal and the SFA for not manoeuvring it through the system more quickly.

The Ibrox quintet were caught at a party in breach of Covid regulations in the early hours of Valentines' Day with Rangers confirming the identities of Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear three days later and that dialogue with the SFA had begun. The were hit with charges form the governing body on March 9th.

The principle hearing date was set for March 25 but appeals sees the players free to play until April 20th meaning they can play in the Scottish fourth round against Celtic.

Whatever the final verdict is - it will have been reached 65 days after the incident occurred.

A fizzing Kennedy snapped: “Looking from the outside, I don’t understand why there’s such a delay.

“Players played against us who probably should have been banned.

“It’s something I think should have been dealt with a hell of a lot quicker to remain consistent with all the other decisions that have happened.

“The SFA probably need to address this themselves and give a bit more clarity to everyone in terms of the hold-up and why it has taken so long.

“I’m saying protocols because we tend to use that word but 100 per cent they were breaking the law. They were dealt with initially.

“Going back to the consistency, we were dealt with very quickly and we were punished harshly and we had to accept that and move on.

“The SFA are the only ones who can come out and clarify why this decision has taken so long and exactly what they
are thinking.”

Record Sport takes a look back to find out how the delay compares with previous high profile coronavirus breaches.

Dylan McGeouch, Mikey Devlin, Scott McKenna, Craig Bryson, Jonny Hayes, Sam Cosgrove, Bruce Anderson and Matty Kennedy breached Coivd rules in visiting a city centre bar after a 1-0 defeat by Rangers on the opening day of the season. The incident took place on August 1 and the players were charged two weeks later on the 14th. They were taken through the disciplinary process on the 28th and the club made no appeal after every player received a three match ban.

Total time from incident to punishment: 27 Days

Boli Bolingoli

The Belgian left-back took a sneaky single night trip to Spain on August 3 that nobody at the club was aware of and failed to self isolate on return. He turned out as a substitute against Kilmarnock days later, with the club totally oblivious to his actions. He was charged on August 14 with a five match ban coming exactly two weeks later with two of those games suspended. Celtic did not appeal. Neil Lennon was furious with his £3m signing and quickly moved him out on loan to Turkish side İstanbul Başakşehir.

Total time from incident to punishment: 25 Days

Jordan Jones and Jordan Edmundson

(Bill Murray/SNS Group)

The Rangers duo were caught at a house party on November 2 and were among 10 Covidiots fined by police for breaching rules on gatherings. The SFA moved extremely quickly to charge the duo on November 4, just two days after the players were nabbed. They were given seven match suspensions on November 19. Rangers did not appeal.

Total time from incident to punishment: 17 Days
