The random act of kindness at Christmas that left a family chuffed to bits

A family is trying to track down the person behind a kindhearted random act of kindness.

An envelope with a £5 note inside had been left in the car park of Asda in Chadderton on Christmas Eve.

Inside the envelope, which had a Christmas tree drawn on it, the card read: "To whoever has found this, I hope you have a lovely Christmas, treat yourself.

"Keep smiling, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

"Love, someone who likes to see people smile."

Now Julie Nicholls from Oldham has appealed for the person behind the selfless gift to come forward to she can thank them.

Her husband Steven picked up the envelope after noticing it on the floor when he went to his car, after some last minute Christmas shopping.

Julie said they have decided to donate the £5 note to charity, but said the card touched them so much that they will have it framed.

She told the Manchester Evneing News: "Everybody has had a really tough, horrid year, but my husband has in particular.

"He just looked down and saw this little envelope on the floor.

"He picked it up and couldn't believe it.

"It has made his year, he is going to treasure it.

"We are going to donate the money to charity but will have the card framed.

"We don't know whether someone was watching, or who it was meant for.

"We would just like to find this person and say thank you."

Julie, who works for the NHS, said she plans to donate the cash to Oldham based Dr Kershaw's Hospice.

"It just a small thing," she said.

"But it really touched us, we just want to say thank you."
