The Ralph Hasenhuttl comments that will worry Frank Lampard and Chelsea after Southampton loss

Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted that his Southampton players were not afraid to come to Stamford Bridge and defeat Chelsea after the Blues's poor run at home.

Frank Lampard's side had previously lost to West Ham and Bournemouth at home in recent weeks, and they can now add the Saints to that list.

Michael Obafemi and Nathan Redmond secured a 2-0 win for the visitors and succumbed Chelsea to their fourth Premier League defeat at home of the campaign.

It was also the first time that the Blues had suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats at Stamford Bridge since 2011.

And that has led some to insist that Chelsea have lost their fear factor at home, and Hasenhuttl confirmed the Hammers and Cherries wins in west London gave his side confidence.

"Yeah, sure," the Saints boss said. "When you see that two teams win here then why shouldn’t you also?

"This is more of losing the fear, don’t be afraid. Come here, be brave. I spoke before about how we want to win here."

That was summed up by Southampton's second goal, which saw almost 30 passes before Redmond clipped the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga.

And the Saints boss believes it was that added bravery that gave them the confidence to perform in that way.

"I think the players will tell me that they did exactly what I demanded them to do," Hasenhuttl added. "I have been critical that we need to make this the next step in our game.

"We can do this, but we at times aren’t brave enough. Especially when we’re in the lead because you have to feel that you can lose something. Especially in that moment, it must be the next step in our development that we can do that to have something to win. This was a good signal for me."

The next time that Chelsea will be at home is in the FA Cup when Nottingham Forest are the visitors in the New Year.

But Lampard admits he doesn't know how far away he is from getting that fear factor back at Stamford Bridge.

"It depends what you want to gauge it by," the Chelsea boss said. "What we want to do is think about can we win the next game here?

"That’s the only thing that’s going to turn this. This mini-run of bad form at home will be turned by a win. And then we’ll try and get another one."
