The 'rain has turned blue' in Stockport - and nobody really knows why

What looks like bright blue rain has been spotted in Stockport.

Jed North, 24, said he noticed something unusual when he was out in the rain in Cheadle.

He took pictures of blue droplets of liquid covering light coloured cars, and says the floor then started to turn blue.

He was inundated with suggestions about why the rain appeared blue, after posting about it on social media.

Suggestions ranged from acid rain, to jet fuel from passing planes.

The Met Office however, has said that while rain sometimes appears red, after picking up sand or other pollutants, they do not think there is a meteorological cause for it to appear blue.

Manchester Airport meanwhile, has said the substance is 'highly unlikely' to have come from an aircraft.

Jed said: "It started raining and we noticed that on the floor it was really blue.

"All of the light coloured cars you could see blue on it. All the puddles are full of blue, it is really weird.

"There is still lots of blue all over the place.

"I have never seen anything like it before.

"We put the pictures up on Facebook and a lot of people thought it was the aviation fuel, but we have no idea what it is."
