The raft of measures Swansea City are taking amid coronavirus outbreak as Steve Cooper gives Middlesbrough latest

Steve Cooper has revealed Swansea City are taking various measures in a bid to ensure they remain safe amid the coronavirus outbreak.

A host of fixtures in the football calendar have been postponed, including Manchester City's Premier League clash with Arsenal earlier this week, over concerns about the pandemic.

And reports have suggested matches in the top flights - as well as those in the EFL - could even be played behind closed doors in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.

Swansea's Championship clash with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday is currently scheduled to go ahead as planned.

Ahead of the trip to the North East of England, Cooper has stated that the Swans have cancelled public events while they have also stopped visitors heading to the Fairwood training complex.

Players have been informed to be cautious when going about their daily lives, with a club source stating that they have been advised to stay clear of public places such as restaurants and cinemas.

However, players, coaches and staff at the club are understood to be relaxed about the situation.

"It’s a serious issue that’s taken over the country," said the head coach.

"I don’t think we’re different to anyone else in terms of taking measures. We’ve been following the advice that’s been given to everybody.

"Things like cancelling personal appearances and stopping visitors coming to the training ground, taking selfies and so on.

"It's about just trying to educate everybody really on obvious dos and donts.

"We’re taking it very seriously while trying to crack on with preparing for a match.

"It’s serious, but it’s a worldwide issue, for every walk of life.

"But there’s a game to play, at the moment, and until we hear different we have to carry on with our work.

"Nothing has affected our preparation. We’re going through the normal cycles and if we get advised things will change we’ll cross them bridges."

Jordon Garrick is available for the clash with Boro after recovering from the illness that ruled him out of the 0-0 draw with West Brom at the Liberty Stadium last weekend.

Bersant Celina has returned to training, although he will be assessed ahead of the game against Middlesbrough.

The visitors will once again be without Wayne Routledge, Mike van der Hoorn and George Byers for the encounter with Jonathan Woodgate's troops.
