The radical plan clubs are said to have to make sure Premier League season is finished

Newcastle United chiefs will meet with their Premier League counterparts on Thursday to decide how the top-flight season will be completed.

As it stands, play has been suspended until April 4, but that could get extended for a further month due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With Liverpool so close to the title and the likes of Sheffield United close to qualifying for Europe, and a clutch of teams still in with a shout of survival, the Premier League is under major pressure to somehow get games completed.

If the matches were unable to be played in front of crowds the possibility of matches being played behind closed doors has again been mooted.

Reports in the morning papers suggest that games could be played at neutral venues in the Midlands with no fans present.

Teams may be asked to play every three days and venues asked to host three games per day to cope with the backlog of fixtures.

The reason games would be played in the Midlands would be to avoid supporters turning up in their droves in the hope of gaining entry according to the Sun.

With Euro 2020 now postponed for 12 months, the fixture list could stretch until June 30.
