The quirkiest places on Airbnb around Bristol - from a 'secret wood' to a 'strawbale home'

Airbnb bills itself as offering "unique accommodation around the world".

Some of the website's accommodation is more unique than others, as can be seen in our guide to out-of-the-ordinary listings in and around Bristol.

From an 'eco-cabin' by a lake to 'wild wood camping', there should be something for everyone here.

Here are five of Bristol's quirkiest Airbnb offerings:

'Casita Paraiso Eco-Chalet'

This listing is for a £45-per-night stay in a single-bedroom 'eco-chalet' in Montpelier, available to two guests at a time.

It reads: "Casita Paraiso Eco Chalet is one of the UK's first tiny houses. Designed by sculptor/architect Miguel Humbert, it is a romantic little hideaway for one or two.

"Casita provides a perfect space to relax and unwind, whether you're here for work or play. It's a sun-trap, south-facing, with a tall rosebush for shade on the wooden decking and seating. You will need to mount the curved, hand built stairs, to the cosy king-sized bed above.

"Its porthole window comes from the Bristol docks, and some of the design is slightly Rudolf Steiner-ish. It was my son's space for many years, well out of sight and sound of mama for his overnight guests.....

"Our first-floor bedroom was the home of Bristol's first ever salsa and lambada dance studio in 1991."

'Quirky cosy cabin near Bristol city centre'

This listing is for a £31-per-night stay in a cabin near Montpelier, available to one guest.

It reads: "My quirky cabin at the bottom of the garden is a peaceful spot near Bristol city centre.

"It's all about the location: you’re a five-minute walk from Montpelier eateries and bars, the town centre is 10 minutes by foot.

"The space is full of character. Equipped with desk and bookshelves, it has a heater and plenty of blankets - so it's super cosy in the winter.

"There’s also a 6ft bed and electricity for your phone/laptop and the lamp.

"You can use the shared bathroom and sitting room. And help yourself to tea or coffee in the sunny kitchen. You can also eat food there - but no cooking I'm afraid."

The cabin also features an indoor fireplace.

'EcoCity living in a WeCanMake strawbale home'

This listing is for a £75-per-night stay in a single-bedroom home in Bristol, available to four guests at a time.

It reads: "This unique home is made entirely of natural materials - timber & straw. Beautifully fitted out & elegantly designed, it’s part of the We Can Make project, which shows how affordable homes can be designed, made & delivered by people doing it for themselves.

"TAM is designed to be environmentally friendly & to look after your health & well-being. Triple glazing, clay plaster walls, walnut floors, locally made furniture all mean your stay will be truly unique. Tam is part of the IsoBio Project.

"It’s all yours. A 400 sq foot one bedroom apartment layout with separate double bedroom with ensuite shower and WC. The living room kitchen is open plan with a large sunny deck and cherry tree shaded zen garden. There is a fold-out futon sofa-bed that allows up to 4 people to stay.

"This home is a TAM made of straw! It was designed, manufactured and assembled in Bristol, using local skills, labour and materials. This is the first of many more to come. You can find out more by searching for We Can Make or TamHaus, where you can find a video of the making of TAM."

'Cosy eco-cabin with lake views'

This listing is for a £64-per-night stay in a single-bedroom 'eco-cabin' in Bristol, available to three guests at a time.

It reads: "Our private romantic Eco Cabin with compost loo & outdoor shower, lies at the bottom of our large garden and was originally built for our Mum to have her own space, away from the chaos of three children at home and a busy working life.

"It was built with a deck that overlooks the River Frome and the local lake. It is the perfect space stay to de-stress. You'll be able to come here, play your favourite music and relax in an incredibly comfy bed before exploring the vibrant city of Bristol.

"Our cosy cabin has a large double bed with four fluffy pillows and an electric blanket for added warmth. We pre-heat the cabin so that you're as comfy and cosy as you can be from the moment you walk in.

"The compost loo and hot shower are both situated just outside, in their own huts on the deck. Please come with an open mind, there is a slight chance of spiders. They are not to the liking of everyone and we suggest coming with an open mind.

"There are slippers available for guests to use when stepping outside to use the facilities. We supply clean towels and shampoo etc.

"We also provide tea and toast making facilities, you'll find a small trolley filled with various teas, coffee, sugar & jams. We supply cutlery, glassware & mugs for each guest."

'Secret Wood Wild Camping'

This listing, in North Somerset, is for a £13-per-night stay in a woodland campsite near the Cheddar Gorge, available to four guests.

It reads: "Come and 'wild camp' in our beautiful ancient woodland, less than 10 minutes walk from Cheddar gorge on the sunny slopes of the Mendip Hills.

"Guests will park at our cottage, space is provided for one vehicle only. It is then a 15-minute uphill walk to the woodland camp. I will give directions and any advice when you arrive.

"You will need to carry everything required for 'your style' of camping including your tent, bedding etc , food to eat and drink, and anything else to enjoy the peaceful tranquility of 'secret wood'.

"Only one group may book the wood each night. There is plenty of dead wood for small campfires/cooking only, no large bonfires permitted.

"No 'normal' toilet facilities, there is a shovel and I expect guests to do the right thing. There is a fresh water supply at our cottage."

The listing describes the site as "ancient" woodland stretching more than three acres and surrounded by "beautiful countryside".

It adds: "Another thing finally, woods can seem a bit scary for some people at night, it is mostly all in our heads!"
