The questions Chelsea will want answering in the Premier League’s emergency meeting

At the moment, all football is suspended until at least April 4, however that is likely to be extended over the course of the next few weeks.

There are going to be a lot of issues discussed in the meeting with the stakeholders and there will be a lot of questions need answering.

But what will Chelsea need to know? Football.london takes a look right here.

When will league action resume?

The big question for every club in the Premier League will be whether or not the Premier League will return this season.

The summer has now been left open by the fact that UEFA have postponed Euro 2020 for 12 months, giving domestic competitions time to finish.

However, with the coronavirus outbreak having no timeline, whatever the Premier League plans might have to be pushed back once again.

The current timeline is for action to return on April 4, however that is looking more and more unlikely.

Will the games be behind closed doors?

One of the options which has come up is whether or not the Premier League will be played behind closed doors.

It could eventually be the only way that the games can get played without any threat to the public in the future.

However, players are against it, clubs don’t want it and managers are worried about the impact that it would have.

However, if it comes to finishing the campaign this way then it might be the only viable option remaining.

What happens if season is null and void?

Another scenario is that the 2019/20 campaign is null and void and it will almost be like it never happened.

However, the legal ramifications and issues that it would drag up would be unprecedented and the Premier League would have a lot of questions to answer.

Would Liverpool be given the title? Who gets relegated or promoted? Do the current Champions League spots remain?

It’s a labyrinth of issues for the league to have to deal with.

Player contracts

Chelsea, like several other clubs, have players who have contracts running out in the summer and could leave on a free transfer.

Willian, Olivier Giroud, Pedro and Willy Caballero are a few who are out of deals on July 1, but what does that mean if the season runs into that month?

There would need to be some guarantees to clubs that the players remain until the end of the current season, whenever that might be.

What will the 2020/21 schedule look like?

Of course with the Premier League likely to be pushed back, it is likely it is going to be a knock-on effect for the next season.

football.london understands the Blues were set to head off to the USA in the summer for pre-season, but that is now in doubt.

That would mean a lot of money being missed out for the clubs, so the Blues will want to know when the next campaign might start.

What will be the transfer window dates?

Of course, the next transfer window was set to start in the summer, however that again could be in jeopardy.

The summer was set to be a big one for the Blues, with Hakim Ziyech joining but the Blues not having signed anyone in the last two windows.

So what will happen for the window? Will it be moved, extended or shrunk? Chelsea will want some clarity.

Compensation and TV revenue

One of the biggest questions for the clubs will be about money and what kind of compensation they might get.

TV revenue is one of the biggest earners for the Premier League clubs, with big money around the world being spent with the brand a huge earner.

Any cancellation of the league will have massive repercussions and there will need to be a lot of clarity over that.
