The Queen sits down in Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace to meet with Nicola Sturgeon

The Queen sat down with Nicola Sturgeon today as part of her week-long trip to Scotland for Royal Week.

Both the First Minister and Her Majesty wore light blue at the Queen’s official residence, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh this afternoon.

The Queen was all smiles as she chatted with Nicola Sturgeon before also meeting Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Alison Johnstone.

The news comes as huge crowds gathered in and around Edinburgh Waverley train station yesterday to welcome the Queen into the capital.

One Edinburgh local told how they had been ‘out for of a casual glass of wine’ at the nearby Wetherspoons pub when they managed to catch a video of the monarch waving at members of the public from her car window.

Footage showed a cheering crowd greeting Her Majesty as she made her way to a waiting car.

The Queen was later spotted in Cumbernauld with her grandson The Duke of Cambridge for a tour of the AG Barr's factory to see how Scotland’s iconic Irn Bru soft drink is made.

Prince William was seen enjoying a sip of the bright orange liquid as the Royal grandmother and grandson were given an overview of the history of the company.

The Queen is expected to be joined by her daughter, the Princess Royal for further engagements on Wednesday and Thursday.
